I'm George Tavares, and I'm running for Ward 7 Councillor because daily life has become harder than it should be.

Residents are paying more, but too many are not seeing better results. Traffic is worse. Construction feels endless. Safety concerns are more visible. Bylaw problems take too long to resolve. Housing costs keep rising. Taxes keep going up, but residents are still left asking why basic things do not work better.

There are two ways to look at this:

The common way is to say these are normal problems in a growing city.
The better way is to ask if Ward 7 is being managed well enough for the people who already live here.

That means three things need to change.

Taxes must be tied to clear results residents can see.
Traffic, construction, safety, and bylaw issues must be tracked publicly and acted on faster.
Ward 7 needs a Councillor who treats daily frustration as the job, not as background noise.

Ward 7 is not broken. It needs better management.

Mississauga should support good public projects, but the new LAC dosen't come with answers on cost, taxes, traffic, parking, housing, and yearly operating expenses.

If they judge big projects by how impressive they sound, but they don't judge them by what they actually change for residents, that's and issue.

Protect taxpayers from projects that look good but do not make life more affordable or services better.

The Ward 7 safety should be visible, enforced, and measured.

Residents should see safety working in daily life. I will push for targeted police presence in repeat problem areas, faster response, and public Ward 7 reporting on calls, response times, enforcement actions, and results.

Accountability should be built into the system, not requested after something goes wrong.

An independent Auditor General would help review spending, test value for money, and identify waste before it becomes a tax increase. Internal review is useful, but it is not the same as independent oversight with public reporting!

Budgets should be reviewed from the ground up, not simply adjusted from last year.

A We need to build our city budget from scratch every year, not just adding to last year's numbers. A ground-up review forces departments to prove they actually need the money today. It stops outdated costs from being automatically approved, protecting Mississauga taxpayers from unfair property tax hikes.

Councillors should explain how they plan to vote before the decision is already made.

A Mississauga civic YouTube and Facebook channel could let councillors explain upcoming issues, policy changes, construction projects, and budget choices. A 45 minute hosted segment with live questions would improve transparency and reduce political distance.

Resident input should lead to trackable action.

Listening is not enough if nothing changes. The city should show how feedback is used, what decision followed, what work was assigned, and when residents can expect an update. Trust grows when people can see follow through.

Business retention should be treated as a city service.

Permitting delays, unclear processes, and slow approvals make Mississauga less competitive. A stronger business climate means faster standards, clearer timelines, and less friction for employers who want to invest, expand, and hire locally.

Major city assets should be used more intelligently.

The dedicated transitway and other public infrastructure should support more civic, tourism, and economic activity where practical. If Mississauga can host major events without disrupting core roads, the city should explore it. Public assets should create public value.

Residents should not need to guess how City Hall is performing.

Public dashboards should show service levels, project timelines, 311 or 411 response data, budget movement, delays, and outcomes. If a road project is late, residents should see why. If a service is falling behind, residents should see the numbers.

Election year discipline should apply every year.

Cities often show more financial restraint near election periods. That discipline should not disappear in the other three years. Residents pay taxes every year, not just during campaigns. The standard should be steady performance, not political timing

The core issue is not whether the promises were reasonable. The issue is whether they worked.

Housing, transit, taxes, traffic, and crime were all valid concerns in past elections. The failure is not that these issues were raised. The failure is that many residents still feel the same problems in 2026. That makes this election a review of performance, not personality.

he city should stop confusing activity with results.

Meetings, studies, plans, and announcements are not the same as outcomes. Residents judge government by what changes in daily life. Shorter delays. Safer streets. Better roads. More reliable service. Lower waste. Clearer answers.

City Hall should go to the residents, not expect residents to chase City Hall.

Holding one Council meeting in each ward every month would make local issues more visible. Schools and accessible venues can bring public decision making closer to the people affected by those decisions.

Mississauga must review its relationship with Peel Region.

Regional costs affect Mississauga taxpayers directly. If Mississauga is paying more than its fair share, residents deserve a structural review. Fair share does not mean avoiding responsibility. It means the cost model must be transparent, justified, and defensible.

Crime reduction must be measured by results, not slogans.

Residents want visible safety. That means targeted patrol presence in repeat incident areas, clear standards, public reporting, and accountability for outcomes. Cameras may help with evidence, but they do not replace prevention, enforcement, or visible deterrence.

Transit has to be practical, not theoretical.

Transit works when it saves time, connects properly, and fits real daily patterns. Bike and bus integration can help, but only if it is designed around actual users, not planning theory. The test is simple: does it make the trip easier, faster, safer, or more reliable?

By-Law enforement that works.

Residents pay taxes expecting basic standards to be upheld. When illegal parking, property standards violations, noise complaints, illegal rooming houses, and repeat offenders go unchecked, residents lose confidence that City Hall is doing its job.

Short term rentals that respect neighbours.

Most residents support responsible short term rentals. The problem begins when residential neighbourhoods start operating like unregulated hotels.
